PRACTICAL NURSING

The Licensed Practical Nurse plays a vital role as a member of the healthcare team in providing care and assisting physicians in the diagnostic / assessment of patients. Emphasis is placed on the nursing process, universal precautions, anatomy and physiology, disease process, pharmacological approach to treating patients, and the different stages of life. In addition, the student engages in "hands on" training involving electrocardiograms, laboratory tests, venipuncture, infusion therapy, and many specialized care procedures. This program equips the graduate with the skills and knowledge necessary to meet the requirements of the Oregon State Board of Nursing to participate in the NCLEX-PN exam, leading to licensure as a practical nurse.

MEDICAL ASSISTANT

Medical Assistants play an important role as a member of the health care team.  Theory and practical applications in the fundamentals of medial diagnostic and laboratory techniques are taught.  Emphasis is placed on medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, technical skills and universal precaution techniques.  In addition students engage in "hands on" training involving electrocardiograms, injections, venipuncture, sterile procedures, vitals, history taking, preparation of medications and assisting the physicians in various medical procedures.

PHLEBOTOMIST / LAB ASSISTANT

Phlebotomist/Lab Assistants play a vital role as a member of the health care team.  Obtaining patient specimens and recording of results and assisting other health care professionals in the treatment of the patients.  Emphasis is placed on universal precautions, anatomy and physiology, medical terminology pertinent to phlebotomy as well as patient confidentiality.  In addition students engage in: hands on training involving electrocardiograms, basic lab tests, venipuncture, syringe draws, finger sticks and heel sticks.  This program equips the graduate with the skills and knowledge necessary to meet the requirements of an entry level Phlebotomist/Lab Assistant.

 MEDICAL ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT

The Medical Administrative Assistant plays a key role as a member of the health care team.  Patient records, transcription of physician orders, patient activities, insurance coding, computer data imputing and the coordination of communication and the management team are discussed.  Emphasis is placed on advanced medical terminology, CPT coding, HCPCS coding, HI and advance computer use. This program equips the graduate with the skills and knowledge necessary to meet the requirement of an entry level Medical Administrative Assistant.
